Qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup began in March and will continue throughout the year. Currently, the Confederations Cup 2009 is underway in South Africa where the US men's team played it up and scored a HUGE victory over the Spanish team. The Spanish, in a 34 game undefeated streak, were completely shocked and stunned when the US beat them into the ground 3-0 in a barn burner the other day. Not being huge Landon Donovan fans we are pleased to know he at least assisted on one goal. Very few people on Earth thought the US had a chance in hell in making the finals here. This victory is pretty awesome. This is great news for the team which has a rep for not being able to seal the deal. Way to go guys! The final this Sunday should be interesting and if they pull it off, miraculous. Let's hope Hell is still frozen over when it happens.
Only four teams have have clinched a place in the 2010 World Cup. Australia, Japan and..hold your breath...the 2 Korea's. The North Korean Team, which does exist, stunned Iran with a 1-1 draw leaving them out. This was another huge upset that leaves the N. Koreans with an historic qualification. Let's hope they don't nuke anyone before 2010.
The South American division is engaged in a super heated battle between 8 teams within ten points of each other. Right now, Venezuela and Columbia are tied with 17 points each.
