Wimbledon 2009

Rafael Nadal is out! He made the major announcement today to the dismay and relief of fans worldwide. We really, really, really wanted to see Rafa vs. Roger at Wimbledon - but alas it is not to be. The Mallorcan Kid is a phenom and we love to see him play. Not to mention he is a real life Teenage Mutant Nija Turtle. He even has the name.
Our relief is in knowing that he will finally relax and concentrate on healing his knees. Watching him lose two days in a row in straight sets was unimaginable. Go and rest Rafa! We wish you well. Wimbledon 2009 will not be the same without you.

Is it Murray's year? McEnroe is on record saying that it could be for a number of reasons including the fact that Murray's "legs are bigger". Wow. Really, John? They'd have to be the size of a London double decker to beat Roger. Murray might make the finals because he is a Brit and everyone in London is completely jazzed for him to win. Roddick for his part said the Murray hype is "extremely warranted". Go get 'em Andy!

The first round draws are unspectacular. Look for Safin to be playing his final Wimbledon amongst rumours that he is retiring at the end of the season.

Montfils withdrew today because of a wrist injury as well as Baghdatis with a knee problem. Two great players that will be missed.

On the Ladies side, the Williams sisters are back. Blah. Venus will try to defend her title. Sorry, we're rooting for Dinara Safina. Watching her lose so many finals is painful. She deserves one.

The Omni Report has the lastest Wimbledon updates on our news stream. Check it out for daily updates. The 2009 Wimbledon Championships run from this Monday, June 22 through July 5.
