Another Reason Why Our Soldiers are Awesome

Shelia Schaffer with Charlie, Penny Herald with her dog Liberty and

American soldiers are returning from Afghanistan and bringing war torn dogs home with them.

As any animal lover will tell you, you form more than just a bond with a pet. And when that pet has suffered along with you that bond becomes unbreakable.

The dogs go through a grueling process of travel and quarantine. It takes months for them to reunite with the soldiers who love them. But when the reunion process happens it's MAGIC.

These soldiers are spending their own money to have the dogs they bonded with flown to the US to live a happy life here. A life filled with food, love and hugs.

Awesome!

Polar Explorers Explored More Than the Just Poles

Polar explorer Rear Admiral Robert Peary and chief aide Matthew Henson are credited with the discovery of the North Pole in 1909. The two and their crew had set up camp in Greenland in the 1890's and relied on native Inuit men to guide them and help them with provisions and logistics on their journey.

It also seems that being men, they had manly needs to attend to as well, turning to the Inuit women for more intimate explorations. Women who bore the men many children.

The children they fathered so far away from their own wives and families at home, were unknown for decades and what started out as almost a tragedy for them has become a source of pride and success.

"After the Americans left in September 1909, never to return or communicate with the Greenlanders, their Inuit families fell into destitution."

"Admiral Peary's forgotten son first came to outsiders' attention through French explorer Jean Malaurie, who spent a year with the Polar Eskimo tribe in 1950-51 and later wrote of Kaala, who was almost killed by an enraged walrus while hunting.

Anaukaq Henson, who died in 1987, remained little known until Harvard University's S. Allen Counter journeyed to Greenland's far north in 1986 to confirm rumours of ‘black Eskimos'"

1986!

Today the Great-Great Grandchildren of these famed polar explorers are striking out on their own and finding a a globalized world of difference.

Faithful to the End and Beyond

The above is a picture of Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson and his dog, Hawkeye. Hawkeye and Jon were inseparable buddies.

This is Hawkeye laying by Jon's casket at Jon's memorial service in Rockford, Iowa the other day.

Jon was killed in the August 6th helicopter shoot down in Afghanistan that also claimed the lives of 29 other Navy Seals.

"Tumilson’s Labrador retriever, Hawkeye, walked up to the casket at the beginning of the service and then dropped down with a heaving sigh as about 1,500 mourners witnessed a dog accompanying his master until the end, reported CBS.

Hawkeye was such a huge part of Tumilson’s life that Tumilson’s family followed the dog down the aisle as they entered the service in front of a capacity crowd in the gymnasium at the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School. Hawkeye then followed Tumilson’s good friend, Scott Nichols, as Nichols approached the stage to give a speech. As Nichols prepared to memorialize his friend, Hawkeye dutifully laid down near the casket."

Hawkeye will now live with Scott Nichols, who was more than willing to adopt him for his fallen friend.

Breakfast At Tiffany's

There was a 50th anniversary screening of Breakfast at Tiffany's the other night at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Jay Weston did a wonderful blog post about it and the film that you can read here: Jay Weston's Huff post blog

We've always loved this movie. A young George Peppard paired with the gorgeous young Audrey Hepburn in New York City and you can't really go wrong. Add Tiffany's jewelry store, Sing Sing prison, apartment parties, an orange tabby cat, the rain and let the romance run wild.

If you've never seen the movie, then surely you've seen THE ICONIC pics of Audrey in her skinny pants or LBD and for sure you've heard the song Moon River. A song written just for Audrey which became the Academy Award Winner that year.

Blake Edwards directed this film. Edwards of Pink Panther fame and of course, Julie Andrews real life husband.

One caveat...okay, two...Mickey Rooney does his best to ruin the film, not intentionally of course, but he does and two, they NEVER stop smoking. To quote Methos "It was the times."

Go and rent Breakfast at Tiffany's. It's a fun wild ride depicting those fun wild times. And you'll never forget the name Holly Golightly.

And it was about a girl in NYC light years ahead of Sex and the City that had more fun, style, grace and class in her small toe than those 4 annoying ugly sluts on the TV show ever had in their entire bodies or careers all put together.

Another Loving Family

Last week it was the giraffe family and today it's Bears from Primorsky Zoo in Russia.

Just look at this series of photos of a loving family.

"What makes the photographs, taken at a zoo in eastern Russia, so fascinating is that most male bears have nothing to do with their cubs and leave the rearing to females.

But Balu is more hands-on than most with four-month-old daughter Diva and is content to give her a proper bear hug.

Zoo director Elena Aseidulina, 34, who took the photographs, said: 'The father, against all laws of nature, is very caring and loving with the cubs.

'It always takes my breath away when I see them playing like this.

'It just makes you realise that these animals have the same feelings as we do. I wanted to take pictures to show others how touching and heartwarming these animals can be.'"

Can I have a hug, Dad?

Of course! Who's my happy little girl?

I love you too, dear

The Royal Wedding (That No One Cares About)

Dumb and Dumber

It comes as no surprise to us, because we don't care about the Royal Wedding one iota, that poll numbers show that no one really cares about this stupid event either.

"In a ComRes survey of 1,006 British adults conducted in November 2010, a clear majority said they were "not excited" by the wedding. Of the sample, some 31% said they "couldn't care less" about the event and a further 28% described themselves as "largely indifferent".

See? The average Brit doesn't even care! So why is the media shoving this thing down our throats amid false claims that "we can't get enough?"

Not only do we not care who's invited, we could care less who makes the dress, where it's held and we are certainly not going to watch it, TIVO it or Youtube it.

The only thing we are looking forward to is actually having it so it WILL BE OVER!

Prince William is close to 30 years old now. Whoooo.. We ask again...who gives a damn about him or his life? He reminds us of a certain horse-toothed jack ass...

Prince William

One "famous" British comedian had this to say: "What I hate most is the assumption that I care, when in fact I very much do not," he barks. "There are lots of important things happening right now and yet we keep hearing about it over and over again. I don't care about my friends' weddings, never mind theirs. It's the inescapability of the whole thing - you can't get away from it even if you want to."

We agree!

In America the non-interest poll numbers are off the chart: "(Reuters) - Sixty-five percent of Americans have no interest in Prince William's pending marriage."

Why does the media ignore this and insist on tireless and endless coverage?

The Royal Family just needs to go away once and for all. The only reason they exist in this day and age is because of tourism. It's true. "Tourism in London has always relied heavily on visitors being attracted from America because of the Royal family. A loss in that interest will have a huge impact on the finances of the UK."

We've always wanted to go to London but never because of the Royals. We don't even understand what makes them royal in the first place. They are a showpiece that has no bearing on politics. In fact, they have no political power and exist solely on taxpayer money. If we were a Brit we'd be throwing a fit! And also throwing those useless idiots out of their castles and into the damn streets where they belong.

Viva La Revolucion!
