The Da Vinci Debacle

The Virgin & Child with Saint Anne
Before and After

A restoration gone wrong has apparently ruined a $150 Million dollar original Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece, leaving it a "garish mess."

To say that Curators at The Louvre are aghast and upset is the new understatement of 2011. They are pretty much outraged and people have quit and more about to be fired.

The "botched cleaning job" was undertaken by French and English restoration experts who fought severely over the method and solvents to be used. And yet, with no resolution, the painting was cleaned and cleaned and cleaned until all of it had been touched by the solvents and now the painting looks...different.

You can see for yourself above.

This amazing 18 year old teenager died on Christmas Day but the 2 videos he left us are priceless.

Turn off the sound, it's awful, and read fast but do watch and read what he has to say because it's inspiring and amazing.

PART ONE:

PART TWO:

Sea Shepherd News!

The Sea Shepard's are reporting that one of their crew rescuing dolphins in Taiji, Japan has been arrested and the others have had their rooms searched and all kinds of items confiscated, including "computers, phones, hard drives, photos, cameras and anything they deemed suspicious."

The Japanese are claiming that Cove Guardian Erwin Vermeulen assaulted someone. No witnesses saw anything yet they took him into custody. Classic tactic. Trumped up charges.

"Erwin was attempting to film the transfer of dolphins from the sea to holding pens at the resort."...and so they got mad and arrested him.

The Cove Guardians are now without means to document the atrocities being committed at Taiji.

Here is a plea for help:

UPDATE 12/20/2011:

This year's killing season in Taiji will go on through the end of March, 2012. Sea Shepherd is encouraging the public to send emails, letters, phone calls, and other communications to local Taiji government offices, the Fishermen's Union (FU), Taiji Whale Museum, Dolphin Base, the Dolphin Resort hotel, and Japanese embassies and consulates around the world. They are also requesting donations to cover immediate replacement of at least one laptop and several SD cards for the volunteers' cameras, so that their documentation work can continue immediately. Addresses for public input include the following:

Mr. Yoshiki Kimura, Governor of Wakayama prefecture
(Mr. Kimura's office issues the drive fishery permit, thus granting permission for the annual dolphin slaughter.)

Also breaking in Sea Shepherd news today is that the ship Brigitte Bardot was incapacitated by a rogue wave and is real danger. It will take the Steve Irwin over 20 hours to reach the crew. They think the ship will stay afloat that long and hopefully withstand a tow back to port. This is a MAJOR setback in Operation Divine Wind as all ships are in the Southern Ocean stopping the annual whale hunt there.

“This is disappointing but these are hostile seas and we have always been prepared for situations like this,” Said Captain Paul Watson from the Steve Irwin. “Right now the safety of my crew on the Brigitte Bardot is our priority and we intend to reach the crew and then do what we can to save our ship.”

L'Institut d'Egypte Destroyed

December 17, 2011

An incalculable treasure has been lost. Egypt's L'Institut d'Egypte, The Egyptian Scientific Institute, founded by FUCKING NAPOLEON in 1798 was burned to the ground on December 17th.

Everything has been lost although Egyptian "officials" are saying that "Protesters and volunteers have been working non-stop to try and salvage the manuscripts and books."

Here are two pictures of what those books look like now. A library of 200,000 volumes incinerated by fucking barbarians.

This is a tragedy somewhat akin or on par with the Alexandria Library loss.

We are personally devastated by this. The state of Egyptian Antiquities are highly unstable right now. WHERE IS THE PHARAOH?

As soon as Zahi Hawass was booted out, all hell broke loose. This is the worst disaster we could imagine short of a terrorist taking out the Sphinx.

One Molotov cocktail is supposedly responsible for this. ONE.

Dr. Hawass wherever you are, we hope you are able to withstand this senseless tragedy. We know you must be inconsolable or raging with anger. We are so sorry.

We just learned about this today. Does anyone know if this was covered by US media AT ALL?

"On 16 December 2011, Egyptian military forces violently attacked the three-week sit-in at the Cabinet building in Cairo. The protesters were demanding that the military ruling council hand over power to civilians.

Military police and central security forces continued to brutally attack, kidnap, kill, detain and torture protesters at Tahrir and in the surrounding downtown Cairo area, as well as systematically sexually assault and beat women. L'Institut d'Egypte, or the Egyptian Scientific Institute, was set on fire on Saturday morning, 17 December 2011.

L'Institute d'Egypte was a research centre created by Napoleon Bonaparte during the 18th century French Invasion of Egypt. It was home to thousands of rare books and manuscripts, including Napoleon's historic 'Description de l'Egypte.' Protesters and volunteers have been working non-stop to try and salvage the manuscripts and books."

Fucking Heathens! Everything Zahi tried to do for the past 40 years has been virtually wiped out and now this. His once grand Pharonic dream, of a new Egypt with new museums and a new bright future, will NEVER be.

He had been living at a sanctuary since before we were born!

"Cheetah came to the sanctuary from Weissmuller's estate sometime around 1960."

Wow! Good job to the people at the sanctuary! It's obvious that they must've taken good care of him all these years.

SURVIVOR: Sophie Takes All

The Final Three: Albert, Coach and Sophie

Season 23 ends with Sophie Clarke winning the $1 million bucks in a very close final vote tally. It was actually the closest vote in years, being split between Coach Wade and Sophie.

Alas! Our beloved Coach makes it to the final three and then loses by just a few votes. Poor Ozzy, who did everything possible, came in at number 4 behind Albert.

Coach gave a lovely speech about being The Phoenix rising from the fire right before the final Tribal. He has now gone from being The Dragonslayer to being The Phoenix. He's one of a kind. And he's OUR Winner.

Ozzy. Ozzy. Ozzy. This kid didn't win the $1 Mill in any of the three times he played, but he is definitely a winner. He also gave a speech at the Reunion show about finding God in nature. It was awesome.

Ozzy wasn't the best Survivor Contestant but he is the best Survivor ever. He is the only one of the hundreds of Survivors that could ACTUALLY BE A SURVIVOR. If left to perish on a deserted island, people would be shocked to see him 20 years later, healthy as a horse with a home made beach house.

At the reunion, Coach tried to keep it together but you can tell he thought he was going to win.

Evil Russell Hantz showed up and talked shit about this nephew on live TV. He wasn't proud of Brandon's behavior and style of play and was supremely pissed that Brandon apologized to everyone for being a Hantz. It was crazy and sad and yes, we still love the character of Russell. It's beyond good TV.

Ozzy rules the jungles

It was a great season.

Coming in February, Survivor: One World.

U.S.to Finally Catch Up With the Rest of the World? - Major Primate News!

Brett, 35, "has never met another chimpanzee he doesn't consider a friend." Brett is well-known for his paintings - one of his pieces is in the permanent collection at the NOVA Art Museum in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. - CBSnews.com
No word on what procedures were used to torture Brett for the 35 years he was held captive and used for "research". But he is FREE now and in a sanctuary enjoying life and retirement. Look at his gorgeous face! We Love him!

The practice of using primates (chimps and apes) for medical research is finally, POSSIBLY, reaching an end in this country!

"Chimpanzee research is rarely necessary for medical studies and should be on its way out", says the Institute of Medicine.

Hallelujah!

Proposed criteria says that studies that test new drugs or give animals diseases can only be conducted on chimps only if other animals or people can't be used first, and if foregoing the chimp studies would hinder progress against life-threatening or debilitating diseases.

The panel also advised the government to limit use of chimps in behavioral research, saying such studies must provide insights into the brain and behavior that otherwise are unattainable. If behavioral research requires chimps, researchers must use techniques that minimize any pain or distress.

Still not a total ban. And it's sad. The United States of America, who should be setting the gold standard for moral, ethical, logical, humane and decent conduct for the world is still one of only TWO COUNTRIES IN THE ENTIRE WORLD that continue utilize and torture primates for science. It's embarrassing how medieval we are.

New Zealand became the first country in the world to give primates civil rights and ban procedures on them. THE ENTIRE WORLD followed with the "European Union banning such research last year."

Why is the United States so backward?

We NEVER thought we'd be able to say this but....Kudos to Glaxosmithkline - "GlaxoSmithKline recently adopted a policy ending its use of apes and chimps in research."

Fucking A and Amen!

Not all is good: "This report was triggered by backlash over the fate of 186 semi-retired research chimps that the NIH planned to move to an active research lab in Texas to save money."

We must fight for them. Live animals used in research is ethically and morally despicable. THE ENDS DO NOT JUSTIFY THE MEANS. What is the point of using the "saving children" excuse when we've lost our souls and humanity in the process? Animal research is passe and obsolete. The United States needs to get with the program.

Christian Bale Roughed Up by Chinese Police

Courtesy Rebel Pepper
A cartoon mocking Christian Bale's confrontation with Chinese security was posted on Weibo, China's Twitter-like service on Friday

By msnbc.com staff and news services

BEIJING -- "Batman" star Christian Bale was roughed up by security guards who stopped him visiting a blind activist living under house arrest in China.

Video footage of the scuffle was shot by a camera crew traveling with the Hollywood actor as he promoted a film he has made in the country.

He and the crew were stopped at a road checkpoint when government security guards wearing green army coats asked what they were doing and punched the camera. When Bale took out his flip camera to record, he was punched and shoved, exactly the same treatment the CNN crew received just a few months earlier when they tried to visit.

After the scuffle, the crew got back into their vehicle and drove off, but they were followed by a security van for about 40 minutes.

"I'm not brave doing this," Bale said on camera. "The local people who are standing up to the authorities, who are visiting Chen and his family and getting beaten or detained, I want to support them."

In a later interview on CNN, Bale said, “It’s amazing a superpower like China is actually terrified, of this man. It shows such an intrinsic weakness within the fabric of the country.”

Rolling Stone Mag's Top 100 Axe Wielders

Wow. We just went through the list of the Top 100 guitarists of all time.

Let's just say we agree with Number One. Jimi Hendrix was ruled. End of story.

It's the other 99 we have a problem with. Almost all of them deserve to be on the list, however, the order and omissions have us wondering WTF?

Omissions

Grievous Error #1:
No Kirk Hammet. Really? REALLY? Rolling Stone should team up with People and see what other lists they can fuck up.

Grievous Error #2:
We did NOT see Stevie Ray Vaughan on the list. We're starting to think this list is a joke.

Grievous Errors #3, 4 and 5:
We also did NOT see Michael Schenker, Yngwe Malmstein or Richard Kruspe. The list is officially stupid as shit.

How can you crown the top 100 and miss the 5 best guitarists in the world? Out of 100!? 100? And not even an honorable mention.

Ordering

Dimebag Darrell made the list! Only they put him at 92...? Have you even heard Pantera? 92 is an insult. Pantera.Fucking.RULES.

James Hetfield made it at 87 but since they left off Kirk Hammett does it matter?

Willie Nelson came in at 77 which is 77 higher than it should be. Then again no one's as high as Willie Nelson. We'll let it slide in a show of 420 solidarity.

Slash comes in at #65. We're not GnR fans per se, but Slash at 65?

Tom Morello is #40. Since Tom Morello is not at #2, we officially do not care anymore. The list makes no sense and makes us sad.

SURVIVOR: "This Game's Not Made For Me, Bro"

Brandon "It's God's Will" Hantz

Lat night's ep was the last regular episode of the season. And what a great season it's been.

Sunday's night's finale is set up to be one of the best ever.

Against unbelievable odds, Coach's alliance has made it INTACT from day one to the very end. It was an amazing run. Now, the fireworks really begin as the last of the 4 alliance mates will implode, which we predict will be spectacularly.

First up was the Redemption Island duel with Edna vs. Ozzy. You would think that Ozzy would wipe the floor with her but a crazy thing happened. Once again, Survivor NEVER FAILS TO DISAPPOINT. While Ozzy was getting through the first half of the challenge with ease, Edna struggled. Then the tribe, which is all 6 of the Te Tuna alliance, started yelling at her what to do. It worked and Edna caught up so fast to Ozzy that she had the final puzzle half way finished. Jeff kept saying, "Ozzy's on his own" and rubbing it in his face. It was pretty cool to see the people that voted her out last week trying to help her. I think it eased the pain when she lost.

Also, one last word on Edna. She's the only Survivor in recent history that had no trouble throwing her buff into the fire. Most people try to hold onto it as a memento or at least feel bad destroying it at the end. Not Edna, "this thing stinks, I can't wait to burn it," she said. Jeff laughed, everyone applauded her and a good time was had by all.

Well not really. Ozzy waved to everyone and then was back to Redemption to wait for one more person to get voted off and come and challenge him. That person is...

Drums please...Brandon Hantz.

What a putz! Brandon made a classic Survivor Move of Stupidity.

At the Immunity challenge, Brandon pretty much kicked ass and won. Coach was kind of close but not quick enough. And we got to see Coach looked very pissed. He was still very zen-like but in a angry zen way. He looked like one of the Angry Birds.

Everyone was resigned to voting out Albert, who's been getting on their nerves. However, Albert went to Brandon and played the Blood Brother card. Albeit he pleaded his case very poorly as far was we were concerned, but Brandon got all fraternal and changed his mind. He then went to Coach and told him that he's going to sacrifice his Immunity and give it to Albert.

Coach then prayed for a name. And he was given one. You see God is a big Survivor fan and we're pretty sure that the producers are recruiting straight from the Bible Belt because the last few seasons have given us some pretty heavy Jesus freaks and Brandon is NUMERO UNO.

At Tribal Council, Brandon didn't even wait for Jeff to start or even say hello. He announced immediately that he was giving his Immunity necklace to Albert. Brandon has no filter of any kind and then started spouting all of his God talk. Now, were not against God in any way shape or form and it IS nice to see people on TV praise Him or whatever, but not like this. When people - Brandon - start saying that "God told me this or that" or "It's God's will that I win or don't win" they sound fucking crazy and it's annoying and you just then look at them with pity instead of respect. And that's what happened to Brandon. He knew he was digging his own grave and got to the point where he actually said "if Coach votes me out it's God's will."

BINGO! Coach got his "out" with Brandon and was able to vote him off without violating any "Honor and Integrity Rules". So Bye- bye Brandon.

What were Coach's parting words of wisdom? "It’s God’s will. Go win redemption.”

We don't even know what to say about that. Our jaw hit the floor in shock because Coach sounded like a religious cult leader who just administered a bucket of kool-aid and then we collapsed in laughter.

He's off to challenge Ozzy for the final Redemption Duel. Winner gets put back into the game and the final 5 go on to cut each others throats.

That was when Brandon made the most succinct statement of the season to Ozzy - "This game's not made for me, Bro."

Look for a CRAZY showdown on Sunday night as 3 people are voted out and three vie for a win.

What does Jeff think?

"But right now my vote would go to Coach if he makes it."

Yes!

Time's Person of the Year - The Protester

We couldn't agree more with Time's choice of Person of the Year 2011. For once they fucking nailed it.

Kurt Anderson, Time writer, had this to say:

“2011 was unlike any year since 1968 — but more consequential because more protesters have more skin in the game. Their protests weren’t part of a countercultural pageant, as in ’68, and rapidly morphed into full-fledged rebellions, bringing down regimes and immediately changing the course of history. It was, in other words, unlike anything in any of our lifetimes…”

Naomi Jaffe, Member of the 1960's Weather Underground said this about the year 1968:

"We felt that doing nothing in a period of repressive violence is itself a form of violence. That's really the part that I think is the hardest for people to understand. If you sit in your house, live your white life and go to your white job, and allow the country that you live in to murder people and to commit genocide, and you sit there and you don't do anything about it, that's violence."

Well, Naomi, it's over 30 years later and people, not just kids, ALL over the WORLD are lashing out at the status quo and rising up to take a stand for change.

This has been the most amazing year we could ever imagine. There were revolutions in almost every country in the world and here at home with the Occupy Movement.

So let's hear it for the year of the protester! From the guy who self-immolated in Tunisia to ignite the Arab Spring to the retired police officer arrested at Occupy Philadelphia - we salute you all.

SURVIVOR: Another Hantz!

First and foremost, we congratulate Jeff Probst! Noticeably absent from the usual Wednesday night Survivor TweetFest and buff giveaway, we learned today that he's on his honeymoon having gotten hitched on Monday.

Ok. So what happened on Survivor last night? None of this recap is in any order...

It was family reunion night so we were treated to ANOTHER HANTZ. That's right, Brandon's dad, who is THAT Hantz's brother, made an appearance. Now we know it's not just Russell and Brandon who are crazy, it really is the entire family.

Shawn Hantz, who moved and spoke just like his evil brother, Russell (who we still LOVE by the way) said this of his son "I don’t know how he hasn’t gotten voted off yet."

Hmmm, neither do we, so I guess not all Hantz's are crazy after ....wait...then he confronted Coach and tried to make him take his son to the final three.

Coach, in his camera interview, laughed it off. All Hantz's are bullies, so why should this one be any different?

Cochran ALMOST won at Redemption. It would have been the greatest upset of all time. He gave a heartfelt, tear stained speech to Probst at the end detailing why he loves the game so much and how happy it made him to be there.

"This has been by far, the most incredible moment of my life," he said. Goodbye Cochran. You did it! You outlasted far longer than you probably should have and you were great. Good job! You earned your one-name name.

Ozzy won and then got to spend time on Redemption with the three Survivors he picked to visit with their relatives. Why all six people had to stay with Ozzy is a mystery. The poor guy didn't get to see a loved one video or an actual loved one. He got dicked. Except for when Coach came by...

Coach wants to take Ozzy to the final three so it can be "two noble warriors facing off" or something. We don't know. Or care. We just totally adore Coach Dragonslayer Zen Master Wade. By the way, we got to see his brother, a normal looking dude, named Pete. Just Pete. Not another epithet in sight! Guess Coach took them all.

Best moment of the night? When Rick got to touch his wife, he grabbed her ass and goosed her on national tv. Isn't Love grand?

There are only 2 more episodes left! The normal Wednesday night and then the 2 hour Sunday night finale. Already! We've really enjoyed the last few years of Survivor. It's just so awesome.

WE WANT COACH TO WIN. WE WANT COACH TO WIN. WE WANT COACH TO WIN.

With only 6 players left, who do you want to win?

Coach, Albert, Sophie, Brandon, Ozzy, or Rick?

The guy on the left is called Pete, the guy on the
right is a Dragonslayer who wears knee highs

R.I.P. Harry Morgan

Our beloved Colonel Potter has finally crossed over at age 96 after a long and rewarding life.

Harry Morgan was a veteran character actor and will always be remembered for his role as Colonel Sherman Potter on the best TV show ever, MASH.

When asked if working with the cast of MASH had made him a better actor he replied: "I don't know about that, but it's made me a better human being."

He'll be missed (even though everyone thought he died 20 years ago)

Oscar Push for Andy Serkis

Andy Serkis is Caesar, the ape

Fox Studio head, Jim Rothman, has been praising Andy Serkis's work in Rise of the Apes and is pushing for a Oscar Nomination for Best Supporting Actor!

"I think we may be at the place where we will see a first-ever in Hollywood this year, which is to see Andy Serkis get nominated for a best supporting actor for Planet of the Apes, even though his face never actually appears," he told The Hollywood Reporter..."But his performance appears, so we are going to push that hard."

Further discussing Serkis' work Rothman said: "The emotionality - what you see and what you feel - he did it. I saw him. I watched him. Then they digitally overlaid - you can think of it as a costume - the skin and the hair of an ape. But I tell you the thing that people felt – and a lot of people where moved when they saw the movie - is because of his performance."

Andy is one of the nicest guys in the biz. We were lucky enough to meet him and his Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the TOR.N "Two Towers, One Party" in Hollywood 2003. To say it was an amazing experience is a total understatement.

Never before has an acting award been given to an actor not seen in the movie. Although "Ceasar, the ape" is on film, it's not Andy per se.

Odds are it's not going to happen, but with all the CGI going on anymore, it just may be a possibility.

Strange Little Red Seal Gets New Home and Webcam!

Remember our post on the Strange, Sad and Cute Red Seal?

When we last left her, she was on the beach abandoned by the other seals and waiting for her mom to come and feed her.

Well, she's been picked up for good by the nice scientists in Russia who have given her a new home complete with a webcam so we can all see her.

This is what the Russians have to say:

"She now has a special enclosure with a pool, and two weeks after her arrival, people are already coming to see her," Yulia Frolova, head of the dolphinarium, told the Daily Mail. "She has a good appetite, and always seems in a happy mood. She is such an unusual seal with very beautiful bright blue eyes."

Lynn Jones is a HERO

What airport worker Lynn Jones saw a few weeks ago made her take a stand for justice and lost her her job. And for it we consider her a BONAFIDE HERO.

Lynn's job was baggage handler at the Reno-Taho Airport and when she saw the dog crate with an obviously abused dog inside she told her supervisor. He insisted she load the crate anyway telling her it's not her job to question the baggage, just load it.

She took another look at the dog this time noticing it wasn't just emaciated and starving, it had open "sores and its paws were worn raw." She was heartbroken and yet resolved to try to save it.

She battled with her supervisor yelling and crying so loudly that the airport police were called in. They in turn called an animal welfare agency, Washoe County Regional Animal Services, who took control of the dog and Lynn got sent home.

Then she got fired for abandoning her job. Yes, the job that she was sent home for!

The poor dog was nursed back to health by the rescue agency only to be sent back to the abusive owner. The owner is a hunter that regularly ships the dog around the world for his hunts.

Lynn spoke up and she got fired for it. She's a hero in every sense of the word. She refused to stand by and do nothing. SHE STOOD UP FOR AN ABUSED ANIMAL THAT COULDN'T SPEAK FOR ITSELF. GREAT WORK, LYNN!

We're absolutely sure that when this bad PR get digested by your boss's supervisor, he'll be the one without a job and you'll get reinstated.

We must always be looking out for the "little guy" especially when it's an animal that needs help.

Two things need to be taken away from this:

1) Lynn Jones needs to be reinstated and reimbursed for lost time.
2) Animal welfare laws need to be adhered to or written in this case. ABUSED ANIMALS SHOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THE ABUSERS. This dog in question was sent back to the same owner to be starved and neglected again. This is a crime. Lynn herself wanted to adopt the dog. We think she should have it.

GQ's Ace of the Year - Novak Djokovic

Novak is our favorite tennis player

Our boy Novak Djokovic (joke-o-vich) has really come into his own having had the best year of his life in 2011.

GQ has named Novak it's Ace of the Year long with Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon as Showmen of the Year, and Gary Oldman as Icon of the Year.

This year alone, Novak was a one man wrecking machine on court. He won 42 matches IN A ROW, won 10 titles and 3 Grand Slams. It was the Year of the Joker.

We've been cheering for Novak for years now so it's really awesome to see him rise to the top of the sport. He is the total package. Witty, clever and charming as a person and a phenom on the court. We never get sick of watching him.

GQ's article has this to say about the young talented Serbian:

“The most electrifying thing about watching Djokovic, the quality that pulls in a casual viewer, is that even while playing at the highest level ever attained in his sport, some piece of his mind seems still to be functioning on the normal human plane. He has not turned his back on lesser life-forms, in the manner of a Michael Jordan, and vanished into a rat tunnel of competitive rage. He places another shot improbably—yet certainly—inside the line. He turns away and pumps his fist, not in abandon but with a sort of narrow-eyed, thoughtful glee. It’s as if he’s as awed as we are by what he can get away with.”

We think the most electrifying thing about watching Novak play is just watching Novak play. What a piece of work is man*.

Novak or Nole as we call him, has just been cast in his first Hollywood action movie! Yes! Look for Nole in a cameo scene with Jason Statham in Expendables 2, currently filming in Bulgaria.

Kudos to Ke$ha, HSI Global Ambassador

Recording artist Ke$ha is using her celebrity to help homeless street dogs.

Ke$ha wants to have hands-on involvement in HSI’s efforts to protect animals. “I am honored to be the first HSI Global Ambassador because my music is inspired by the freedom and primal beauty of animals and the natural world," she says. "I take this opportunity incredibly seriously because we are ALL animals. One of the main underlying sentiments of my music is to respect all living creatures just as they are. I believe that together, we can change laws that allow innocent animals to be unjustly mistreated and abused all over the world."

40 Years and Counting

Do you know this man?

On November 24, 1971 a man by the name of Dan Cooper successfully hijacked an American airplane and got away with it and the money.

Cooper's escapade is undoubtedly one of the most successful single handed heists in history. True, he only took $200,000.000 but in 1971 dollars that was over a million. And his legend has endured all this time making him kind of a folk hero even though today he would be branded a terrorist.

People are in awe of Cooper and how the hell he managed to get away with it. Or did he? Does his body still lie undiscovered in the vast wilderness of the Pacific Northwest? Perhaps a Bigfoot found him, nursed him back to health and has held him captive all this time?

D.B. Cooper no matter what the outcome will always be legend. Because he got away with it. He might be dead but he is not nor ever was caught and prosecuted. We still root for this guy. Fuck it.

Most of all, we root for him, because no one got hurt. He was a nice hijacker. The guy was very polite to the flight staff (well, except for frightening the stewardesses with a bomb!) and even let them eat dinner. He also released all hostages after receiving the money.

This story is a doozy and all the more entertaining because the details are amazing. Personally, we think he did get away with it and lived for a while but is probably dead now. We may well never know the truth of who exactly D.B. was.

Was the identity of Dan Cooper based on a French comic book named DAN COOPER?

It's one of the FBI's most annoyingly unsolved cold cases of all time. And one of our personal faves.

Cavendish Sets Sights on Olympic Gold

Cavendish is having the best year ever

It seems all the news is coming out of London today.....

Mark "The Missile" Cavendish has Olympic Gold on his mind these days. He is coming off the best Tour De France of his career which he immediately followed up with Road Race Champion, the first Brit to do so in 46 YEARS.

His chances are as good as they are ever going to get and we wouldn't bet against him. Especially since the 2012 Olympics are on his turf.

However, it will be gruelling. The Olympic cyclists call date is just 6 days after The Tour ends. 6 days! Mon Dieu!

The father-to-be is in super high spirits and is hopeful that he can take the gold. First though, his supermodel girlfriend is due very soon and Mark says:‘It’s the most exciting news I’ve had all year, and that includes what I’ve done in cycling.’

Awwww.

And in More British News...Fenton the Dog

Ahhh, the calm tranquility of London's Richmond Park. The deer are plenty and are grazing peacefully. The traffic on the boundary road is light and the day is just clear and perfect. What a nice day to walk the dog.

Once you watch this video you'll see why it's gone viral. And if you've ever owned a dog that tends to chase things, you can feel this guys embarrassing pain.

Care to bet on who can run faster - a herd of deer, a dog named Fenton or a man? Hint: It is SO not the man.

And since the deer were not hurt, we find it hilarious.

Ab Fab 2011

Absolutely Fabulous is celebrating it's 20th!

Eddie and Pats are returning for a new season that includes a three-part Christmas special. Yay!

Everyone is commenting on how great the cast looks. Jane Horrocks (Bubble) is 47, Julia Sawalha (Saffy) is 43, Jennifer Saunders (Edina) is 53, June Whitfield (mom) is 86, and Joanna Lumley (Patsy) is 65.

Amazing!

Jennifer Saunders, who plays the super-cool yet hot-mess Edina, and is the creator/writer for the show, is in remission from her breast cancer ordeal from the last couple of years and seems ready to bring Ab Fab back to prime time and possibly to A MOVIE THEATER NEAR YOU.

'We thought it would be hilarious if [Edina and Patsy] went to a party on an oligarch’s yacht, got drunk, fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the ocean,' she said.

Well, considering Eddie and Patsy get drunk and wake up everywhere else, why not?

Here's a sneak peek at the Christmas special airing soon on BBC1.

Roger Routs Rafa at World Tour

Roger reminds everyone that he's still a contender

There was a time, not just a couple of years ago, when Roger Federer won every match he was in. Every. One.

Hailed as The Greatest Tennis Player of All Time, he was on course to break every record and cement his already lustrous career into infinity.

Then a guy named Rafael Nadal entered the scene. A young punk from Spain, Nadal had the guts, the skill and the balls to kick Roger's ass from one side of the court to another. To this day Rafa has won 17 of the 26 times they've met.

The Roger Federer - Rafael Nadal rivalry is/was one of the greatest in ALL sports. But in tennis it is already the stuff of legend.

Roger is now ranked 4th in the world behind #1 Novak Djokivic, #2 Rafa Nadal and #3 Andy Freaking Murray.

However, last night, Roger absolutely and totally schooled Nadal in less than an hour winning 6-3, 6-0 at the O2 in London.

It was Rafa's worst defeat since 2008. To put the point on it, check this out: Roger had 28 outright winners to Rafa's 4.

Federer will be in the Barclays ATP World Tour Semi Finals this Saturday. Rafa will be doing supermodels on his yacht.

J.R. Martinez Wins Coveted Mirrorball

JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff win season 13

Jose Rene Martinez is an amazing example of how ordinary people can overcome difficult and painful obstacles and accomplish extraordinary things.

JR's journey has been incredible. Born in Louisiana in 1983, he enlisted in the army in 2002. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and was there only 2 months when the Humvee he was driving hit a landmine.

JR was burned over 40% of his body. He was airlifted to Germany and spent almost 3 years in hospital recovering. To date he has undergone 33 surgeries and skin grafts.

This is where the story gets really inspirational. JR was asked to speak to a newly burned patient and try and comfort him. Not only did it work but JR discovered he has a way with people.

He became a motivational speaker and has been honored nationally for his work, on multiple occasions by various veterans groups and more.

He's a fixture on General Hospital, a groundbreaking role for daytime television.

As far as Dancing With the Stars goes, we liked Ricki Lake but are sick of Derek Hough winning and although we like Cheryl Burke, there's no way we wanted Rob Shallnotbenamed to win. So this was perfect.

It's thrilling to have a guy like JR, who breaks the mold in every way, win this year. He's already accomplished amazing things and we can't wait to see what he does in the future.

The Day the President Died

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot to death this day in 1963.

It was a beautiful Texan day and no one, but the idiots that killed him, had any idea what terrible things were to come.

WARNING: The following is extremely graphic.

Look how Jackie tries to flee the car after her husband's head is blown apart all over her. It's still so sad.

Never forget these 2 things about that day and night:

1) The Secret Service that were supposed to physically ride on the back of the car and run beside it using specifically installed handles attached to the car were intentionally CALLED OFF at the last minute.

The secret service guys were so pissed they kept waving their arms in the air - 3 times to be exact - in exasperation and confusion. Why were they being called off by their boss? REPEAT: Why were the Secret Service Agents supposed to be riding ON THE BACK OF THE CAR ITSELF being called off by their boss? Here's the video to prove it.

And 2) FACT: Right after JFK was assassinated the United States Treasury was plundered. The paper money that used to read "Payable to the Bearer on Demand" became a useless "Federal Reserve Note" and rumors abound to this day that Fort Knox was emptied out in one night.

Brad Meltzer's Decoded just did a great episode on Fort Knox. No one has been allowed in to view the "gold" since the 1970's. Nope, nothing shady there!

The assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the death of this great country as we knew it. All of the evils that have befallen us over the years can directly be traced back to that beautiful yet tragic day in Dallas.

PS: We still miss JFK, Jr., too.

L.A. Galaxy Win MLS Championship

David Beckham delivers a Championship to LA

Love him or hate him, the boy can play fucking soccer almost better than anyone in the world. He is in the elite upper-eschelon of the sport and there are only a handful up there with him.

Sunday night in Los Angeles, MLS team Galaxy, won their first Championship. They owe it all to Beckham who went balls out for a trophy.

It was a rough start for the Englishman, when he moved his famous family to California to compete in the US MLS. David was injured and it was a slow recovery but at the 5 year mark, with his contract at an end, he delivered the goods.

De La Rocha Pens Occupy Poem

Rage Against the Machine's Zack de la Rocha has released an Occupy Wall Street poem in solidarity for the protesters.

"This poem is dedicated to the Occupy movement whose courage is changing the world. Stay Strong. We are winning."

The beginning spills through city veins

Into the arteries

And under powers poison clouds

We move like the shadows

Through the alley ways

Through nightmares bought and sold as dreams

Through barren factories

Through boarded schools

Through rotting fields

Through the burning doors of the past

Through imaginations exploding

To break the curfews in our minds

Our actions awaken dreams of actions multiplied

A restless fury

Once buried like burning embers

Left alone to smolder

But together stacked under the walls of a dying order

All sparks are counted

Calloused hands raised in silence

Over the bonfire of hope unincorporated

It's flame restores tomorrows meaning

Across the graveyards of hollow promises

As gold dipped vultures pick at what is left of our denial

And the youngest among us

Stare at us stoned like eyes determined

And say
Death for us may come early

Cause dignity has no price

At the corner of now and nowhere

Anywhere

Everywhere

Tomorrow is calling

Tomorrow is calling

Do not be afraid

What Really Happend to Natalie Wood - UPDATED

We originally posted this on 7/20/11 and in light of the breaking news today that the LA County Sheriff's Department is re-opening the case it's super relevant!

Actress Natalie Wood was born this day in 1938. She died November 29, 1981.

How beloved was Natalie Wood by her Hollywood peers? Well, her pall bearers were: Rock Hudson, Frank Sinatra, Laurence Olivier, Gregory Peck, David Niven, Fred Astaire and movie director Elia Kazan.

Her funeral was attended by over 1,000 people and included Elizabeth Taylor and Gene Kelly.

In life she starred in over 50 major motion pictures including some of the best and biggest of all time: Miracle on 34th Street, The Searchers, West Side Story, Splendor in the Grass, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Rebel Without a Cause and one of our all time personal favorites, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

She was nominated 3 times for an Academy Award and nominated multiple times for Golden Globes, winning twice.

Her death at age 43, remains an open mystery. Natalie was married a few times in her life and like Elizabeth Taylor two of those marriages were to the same man, Robert Wagner (Of recent Austin Powers movie fame.)

On the night in question, November 29, 1981, she was on her and Robert's yacht with fellow actor Christopher Walken and the boat Captain. She was found drowned the next morning, clad in a nightgown, jacket and socks. The official story is that she went outside late that night/early that morning to secure a dingy that kept banging against the boat, slipped, fell in the water and accidentally drowned.

Her sister, actress Lana, insists that Natalie would never go out at night like that and secure a boat. Besides, she had THREE other men on board that could have done that for her, including one (the Captain) that was on the payroll to specifically take care of that kind of thing.

The Captain insists to this day he saw and heard Natalie and Robert having a terrible fight on deck early that morning and that all of sudden Robert was alone saying, "she's gone." The implication here is that he threw her overboard or accidentally/inadvertently caused her to fall overboard.

The police ruled that because of the level of alcohol in her bloodstream (super high)and because they believed Wagner's story that is was an accident.

Christopher Walken has NEVER ONCE spoken publicly about that night. Wagner never said much either. His autobiography from a few years ago basically just says this:

According to Wagner, tensions came to the boil during a late dinner on the couple's yacht Splendor, which was moored off the island of Santa Catalina, near Los Angeles, after Walken suggested that Wood should star in more films instead of caring for two young children.

Wagner admits he lost his temper over the remark and smashed a wine bottle on the table, prompting Wood to go below to their cabin. He and Walken then went up on deck to cool down. At about midnight he returned to the cabin and discovered that his wife was missing. Then he realised that the yacht's dinghy had gone too. That's when he remarked to the Captain, "She's gone."

This implies that he thought maybe she had just taken the smaller boat to shore and left him. He was so drunk he might not have even known she was dead.

Her body was found by authorities later that day.

Her sister, Lana, as of March 2010, asked the LA police to re-open this "case" and reinvestigate. No word on that, but considering the LA police face thousands of homicides a year and this incident happened 30 years ago this November, we'd say it's over.

WRONG! Case re-opened 11/18/11

Sheriff's Office has "new information"

Lana's story is conveyed through this news article from a couple of years ago.

We'll never know what really happened that night unless Christoper Walken or Robert Wagner give some sort of tell all.

Until then, it's still up in the air...Lover's squabble that led to accidental death, drunken accident or deliberate murder...?

Another Reason Why Our Soldiers are Awesome

Shelia Schaffer with Charlie, Penny Herald with her dog Liberty and
Adam John Riniker with his dog Freedom

American soldiers are returning from Afghanistan and bringing war torn dogs home with them.

As any animal lover will tell you, you form more than just a bond with a pet. And when that pet has suffered along with you that bond becomes unbreakable.

The dogs go through a grueling process of travel and quarantine. It takes months for them to reunite with the soldiers who love them. But when the reunion process happens it's MAGIC.

These soldiers are spending their own money to have the dogs they bonded with flown to the US to live a happy life here. A life filled with food, love and hugs.

Awesome!

People's Sexiest Man - Alex O'Loughlin?

People's Sexiest Man Alive is Bradley Cooper

No, it's not THE OBVIOUS CHOICE - ALEX O'LOUGHLIN. It's Bradley Cooper.

We love Bradley. He's a local guy (Philly) and he's nice and we love the Hangover movies. BUT...he's no Alex O'Loughlin.

Alex is easily the hottest thing from Down Under ever. And the ladies know that the guys from Australia are the sexiest in the world.

Picture of Alex O'Loughlin from Fitness Magazine's top 25 fittest bods

Seriously. Alex IS the Sexiest.Man.Alive.

Alex has a HUGE fanbase. We caught on to his vampire series Moonlight about 2 years after it was cancelled by CBS. Damn! Thank God for Netflix!

He was then cast in the even shorter lived Three Rivers, again a CBS show.

And now he can be seen every Monday night at 10 on the new (and AWESOME) re-boot of Hawaii 5-0. Again a CBS show. So, this calls for a shout out to Les Moonves, head honcho at CBS WHO OBVIOUSLY KNOWS A GOOD THING WHEN HE SEES IT. Thanks, Les for keeping Alex on TV!

Once again, if you're not sure if Alex is sexy or not:

from his GQ Australia shoot
convinced, now?

Does this do it?
Because he had us at hello

Oh, and People has about 125 guys on the list so Alex might be there after all but he's not even top ten, so FAIL. And to boot, they put Ryan Gosling at #10. Really, People? So not cool.

UPDATE: Alex DID MAKE THE LIST! They even used the picture from above. WTG, People. At least you remembered him. Next year Number One!

And the Peacemaker of the Year Award Goes to...Vladimir Putin!

AWWW...who's a good boy and wants a peace prize?

China has given their equivalent of a Nobel Peace Prize, the Confucius Peace Prize, to be exact, to Vladimir Putin. They obviously love him.

Who doesn't? (well, except for all those people he tortured and killed. Perfect candidate for peacemaker...no?)

"A panel of 16 academics chose Putin ahead of other candidates, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Yuan Longping, a Chinese agricultural scientist.

The tipping point appeared to be Putin’s role in Libya, where he opposed NATO’s involvement in trying to topple the Gaddafi regime. Critics say Putin’s stand had no bearing on the outcome of the north African conflict.

‘This April or May, Putin was against NATO’s idea to bomb Libya and he appeared to the world in a peaceful manner,’ said Qiao Damo, one of the organisers."
