It Gets Better: A Message of Hope from the US Senate

The US Senate got together for "The It Gets Better" Campaign. This campaign encourages LGBT youth to try and get through high school without killing themselves because "it gets better."

We've already posted some of these videos in the past. Notably, Tim Gunn's video as WE LOVE HIM.

This video touched us personally. We see the anti-gay hatred every day at work from ignorant Republican conservatives who question "why do they (gay people) need to be married?" In other words, can't they just go away and leave us normal people alone?

It drives us fucking crazy because gay people are our friends, family and co-workers. We cannot even imagine a life without them. We don't consider them second-class citizens without rights. We can't imagine them killing themselves as teenagers either.

It's about time to end the partisan bullshit and political rhetoric regarding the fact that people are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered. It's a fact. It's not something to even debate. And, people start out as kids that are confused enough about life. They don't need other people's bullshit killing their fragile egos to the point where they want to die.

Good for the Senate.

Here it is:

Wimbledon: And on the Men's Side

ROGER FEDERER IS OUT!

The six-time Wimbledon winner was ousted by big Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the Muhammad Ali look alike. Tsonga was ELATED over the win as you can see from the pic above.

WOW! What a shocker! Tsonga is good but not take-down-Federer-in-his-own-house good. But he was today. And to boot, Roger was 178-0 in matches where he was up 2 sets.

Yes, folks, Roger was up the first two sets and lost the last three. Did anyone check to see if Hell is freezing over?

Also, in good news, our boy Novak Djokovic rolls on to the semis as well.

Andy Murray - Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic - Jo Tsonga are the final four.

We're looking forward to a Rafa - Novak final.

Wimbledon Update: And on the Women's Side

Serena and Venus as the Divas they are

THE WILLLIAMS SISTERS ARE OUT!

Hallelujiah!

We know they are the best players of their generation but personally they are so unlikeable they make our skin crawl. We just cannot root for them. Ever. There is absolutely nothing to like about them. They are mean, rude and simply obnoxious people that do not get "it" or anything for that matter. Their narcisssim level is in a class by itself.

Venus was bested by the same person who put her out last year and with the SAME score: Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-3.

There is word that Venus should retire. Wimbledon was her best event. She's 31 and can't even win 6 games here now.

Serena was bested today by Marion Bartoli in three sets. Bartoli is an "outcast". She's not one of the glamorous ones, her father is her coach (we know how THAT goes) and we like her for that. She is consistently in the WTA's top ten players and SHE BEAT SERENA. Go Bartoli!

So, Good bye Serena. Good bye Venus. Take that bitch Maria Sharapova with you!

Caroline is everything that Bitch Sharapova wishes she was...
talented, cute and liked

We also say good bye to Caroline Wozniacki who once again is "under fire" for being ranked #1 in the world with NO MAJORS. That's right. Cute little Wozniacki has never won a major title and it's starting to piss people off that she is ranked so high without one.

She lost today in three sets to Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

As cute as Wozniacki is, she doesn't hold a candle
to the sex kitten known as Ana Ivanovic. WOW!

Speaking of sex...

Although this is a post about the Women's side...

WE MISS MARAT SO MUCH, WE CAN'T TAKE IT.
HERE HE IS FOR OLD TIMES SAKE...

Big, delicious Marat Safin at Wimbledon

Where are you now, Buddy?

Say Hello, Mrs. Bond!

Congratulations to the newly wed couple! Yes, British actors Daniel "James Bond" Craig and GORGEOUS Rachel Weisz tied the knot over the weekend, in a super secret ceremony.

They have been dating since meeting during filming of one of "Dream House".

We can see Daniel in this July's upcoming "Cowboys and Aliens" with Adam Beach, the second coolest Native American actor out there (Wes Studi being #1, of course). The Trailer for "Cowboys" is pretty wild. Harrison Ford co-stars as well. Here is the summary: "A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys are all that stand in their way." Oooh! Aliens vs. Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Adam Beach. We CAN'T WAIT!

Rachel's new spy flick "Page Eight" is due out in the fall and also stars Ralph Feinnes. She's so gorgeous we'd see anything with her on the big screen. This is the second or third movie for Rachel and Ralph together. The last was "The Constant Gardener."

We Dare You Not to Laugh At This

Another day, another cute as hell animal video.

Enjoy this and we dare you not to laugh...

R.I.P Peter Falk

To millions he is known as Columbo, but for us he will always be Harry Buscafusco, Peter Falk's character in Vibes.

What? You mean you never heard of Vibes?

It's 1988's BEST MOVIE. Get it on netflix and enjoy the craziness of Jeff Goldblum, Cyndi Lauper and Peter Falk discovering an ancient temple of gold in Peru. One of our favorites of all time. And Peter had some classic lines!

R.I.P big guy. Thanks for the laughs. You were a hoot!

Missy Elliot is Back

We were all wondering where Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot has been all this time. We weren't even wondering as much as DYING for some good music!

Missy has been fighting Graves disease and was very sick for the last three years.

She explains to People magazine that the medication and radiation treatments have worked and her thyroid issues are under control.

Good to hear! Can't wait for the new beats...

Happy Birthday Bruce Campbell!

"Gimme some sugar, baby..."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of our favorite actors - OF ALL TIME - Bruce Campbell!

We just LOVE LOVE LOVE him.

Bruce is one of those "B" list character actors that makes every movie he is in SO MUCH BETTER. We consider him "A" list. Why Hollywood never made him the leading man we'll never know because he kicks ass and takes names doing what he does best...being Bruce.

He has a cult fan base like no other. We are all such LOYAL fans.

He has been on the USA TV show Burn Notice for the past few years, racking up legions of new fans. In fact, his character, Sam Axe, is so popular that USA gave him it's own TV movie, "Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe".

Everytime Bruce does a meet and greet rabid cult fan followers...like us...show up in droves. And he is so nice to his fans.

We got to meet him in Philadelphia a few years back and HE IS SO AWESOME in person. Nice, down to earth, unassuming and just pleasant.

His resume at IMDB is off the chart. He's been in hundreds of TV shows and movies. He is listed as actor, director, producer and writer as well. He is talented beyond belief.

His childhood friend, Sam Raimi, is one of the most respected Hollywood directors and you may know his little brother, Ted Raimi, as Joxer from the Hercules/Xena shows...of which Bruce starred in as well.

Sam directed Bruce in the cult hit "Evil Dead" which to date remains one of the most successful horror films of all time. The third sequel "Army of Darkness" came out in 1992 and was a commercial success. A special DVD called "Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness: Boomstick Edition" and is one of our favorite collectibles.

Suffice it to say, if you like Bruce, you REALLY like Bruce. He is a Hollywood favorite.

The TV show western "The Adventures of Brisco County" is on DVD. RENT IT. Bruce is fantastic as the lead character, Brisco, on a mission to revenge his father. It was the best TV show Fox ever made.

Ancient North American Carving Discovered

Archaeologists are excited to announce the discovery of a 13,000 year old carving of a mastodon. The carving, found on a bone fragment, is the oldest known art work in the Americas.

"The bone fragment, discovered in Vero Beach, Fla., contains an incised image about 3 inches long from head to tail and about 1 3/4 inches from head to foot."

The carving is very similar to cave drawings found in Europe.

Dogma and backward thinking keeps the archaeologists from declaring that there was Pre-Columbian European contact. However, EVERYONE should know by know that ancient people from different cultures travelled all over the world. Why this is still "Dogma" is beyond belief. Do we still believe the Earth is flat, too?

We personally think these ideas persist because people do not want to accept the truth that Man did not go from "cavemen to striped toothpaste." Civilizations and technology are cyclical. They come and go. Maybe it's threatening to know that people 5,000 years ago had electricity and roamed the Earth, mapping everything and building monuments we couldn't possibly replicate today. We want to think that we are the end all be all of civilization and that those who came before us we're...just cavemen.

To suggest otherwise is "controversial" and invites "skepticism and criticism".

How sad.

The Omni Report however, thrives on controversial and relishes skepticism and criticism.

Live Like a Jackass, Die Like a Jackass

First off, we are sorry for his friends and family who are grieving for Ryan Dunn, one of the "Jackass" crew made famous by their jackass stunts.

We are angry as hell at Ryan Dunn for driving 140MPH while twice the legal limit. What would his friends and family do for the friends and families of someone he could have killed. Never mind that HE DID IN FACT KILL SOMEONE. A seasoned war veteran, no less. Zachary Hartwell was a Navy veteran who served as a gunner's mate in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Zach survived in Afghanistan, defying the odds, only to be killed by his friend after a night of heavy drinking.

How fucking sad and depraved.

They are reporting Dunn had over 23 prior offenses for DUI and speeding in the 13 years before his fatal accident. He WAS a "Jackass"!

An open note to Bam Margera,
Make good and do a PSA against drunk driving. Forgive Roger Ebert and move on.

Our Oceans are Fucked

Are there even any words for this?

1,000 year old coral die-offs. Dead zones. Floating garbage patches the sizes of entire states. Global warming. Overfishing. Mass extinction. Habitat loss. Pollution. Oil spills. Reduced oxygen.

Basically, our oceans are fucked up. They are sick and dying. Scientists warn that if we don't take action now they will never recover.

"(Reuters) - Life in the oceans is at imminent risk of the worst spate of extinctions in millions of years due to threats such as climate change and over-fishing, a study showed on Tuesday."

This is critically dire news for the entire human race. Can you imagine trying to go to the beach and the water is just a slimy mess because the oxygen has dissapated? This is where we are heading.

No seafood? Just. Imagine. Now get used to it. It's happening NOW.

Drink Like a Bruin

Boston Bruins player Zdeno Chara drinks
from the Stanley Cup as team mate Shawn Thornton drinks
straight from the world's most expensive bottle of champagne

If you are a Boston Bruin and you win the Stanley Cup, what is the first thing you do to celebrate?

Apparently, the answer is: Run up a $156,700 bar tab! That's right. Just SIX of the Bruins ran a mind blowing $156,700.000 beer/wine/champagne tab at the MGM Grand in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Saturday night.

To say they had a good time is a fucking understatement.

Did they have the Stanley Cup with them? YES.
Did they dance with their shirts off on top of the bar, Coyote Ugly style? YES.
With half naked girls? YES.
Did they order the world's most expensive champagne? YES
A $100,000 bottle of Ace of Spades Midas Champagne? OH HELL YES. THEY SURE DID.

"The champagne, Ace of Spades Midas, is only one of six of the 30-litre bottles in existence - well, five now. Made by luxury brand Armand de Brignac and produced by Champagne house Cattier, it is the largest bottle of luxury Champagne in the world. The gold metallic bottles are crafted entirely by hand, inspired by fashion designer Andre Courreges. They are housed in a black wooden case, lined with velvet and fitted with an engraved nameplate. Each is embossed with the Champagne's royal crest."

Well, if you're going to drink alcohol directly from the Stanley Cup, it might as well be champagne that costs as much for one bottle as it does to buy and own an entire house!

And a good time was had by all!

SOLSTICE DAY

Welcome to the Longest Day of the Year, June 21st.

The summer solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is most inclined towards the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'...or
simply, it's the longest day of the year with the most sunlight hours.

So go celebrate!

at Stonehenge!

Stonehenge is the world's most famous monolithic example of a celestially aligned astronomical monument, however there are examples of this phenomenon everywhere in the ancient world.

The Anasazi pueblos in Arizona for example incorporate many solstice features. And in Bolivia much of Tiwanaku is aligned with both winter and summer solstices.

The entire field of archeoastronomy is a joyous journey into the astronomically aligned past which we are proud to highlight now and then at The Omni Report.

The Pharaoh is "Innocent"

From June 16, 2011

CAIRO: An Egyptian court ruled on Wednesday that Egypt’s firebrand Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass is innocent of charges against him. The minister is currently in the United States on a speaking tour.

“Today is a very special day for me. The MSA, and myself personally, will always hold the laws of Egypt in the highest regard,” Hawass wrote on his personal blog.

“The MSA, and myself personally, have always held the laws of Egypt and the ruling of our courts in the highest regard and we will continue to do so,” he continued."

Did we expect anything less? Remember the "Teflon Don"? Well, Dr. Hawass is the "Teflon Pharaoh". Nothing can touch this guy!

The world is going to be so boring without him one day...

Good news for Al Gore. Ratings are up already.

R.I.P.: Clarence Clemens

The world lost its best saxophone player this weekend when 69 year old Clarence Clemens passed away from complications from a stroke. Clarence was a great guy and will be missed. His years in the E Street Band were legendary.

His latest project was playing sax for Lady Gaga for her new song "Edge of Glory."

Anyone else remember him in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"?

“Clarence lived a wonderful life,” Bruce Springsteen said in a statement. “He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage." Springsteen added that the loss of Clemons, known as the Big Man, "is immeasurable" and that he and his bandmates "are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly 40 years."

From their Anaheim, Calif., show on Saturday, U2's Bono addressed their audience: "I want you to think about a beautiful symphonic sound that came out of one man's saxophone."

Sea Shepherds Coming to You This Summer

FROM The Sea Shepherd E-News

The legal bluefin tuna fishing season is over and we are ready for direct action! The Steve Irwin and the Brigitte Bardot are patrolling Mediterranean waters looking for any sign of fishing activity continuing. It was this time last year that we caught an illegal bluefin operation, dove in, cut the nets, and freed over 800 illegally caught bluefin tuna. This year, we hope the poachers won't be so greedy, but we are prepared and we will not stand down!

Thanks to your steadfast support, we are able to defend bluefin tuna and our other clients like the whales, dolphins, and sharks. Sea Shepherd fills a void in the conservation movement. No other organization in the world does what we do, and we couldn't do it with you! Your donations keep our ships at sea and our campaigns moving forward with success. Thank-you!

Michele Bachmann is an Idiot

This dumb bitch Michele Bachman, who is under some delusion that she could be the next POTUS, is a fucking idiot.

We are so incensed with this stupid broad that we are at a loss for words. Please read the NRDC post by Heather Taylor-Miesle that was just posted on Huffington Post to get a clear idea why we hate this bitch Bachman.

NRDC blog post

Bachmann wants to abolish and disband the EPA as it's a a "job killing federal agency".

Besides being a tea bagger she's a shill for Xcel Energy and Exxon Mobil among other planet killing polluting cretins.

If this is the best the tea baggers can do, then they are a bunch of fucking morons and losers, too.

Never trust a Michele with only one L.

The only cool ones have 2!

Tupac's 40th

Legendary rapper, Tupac Shakur, would have turned 40 today had his life not been cut short by his still unsolved murder in 1996.

2Pac has sold over 75 million records to date, being one of the most posthumously lucrative artists in history.

His shooting outside of a Manhattan nightclub sparked the infamous East Coast-West Coast gansta wars of the 90's as both sides assigned blame and retribution. Just 2 years later both Tupac and Biggie Smalls would be killed in that war.

Yesterday, Dexter Isaac, a 46 year old convicted murderer, still in prison for his other crimes, confessed to shooting Tupac, the first time, in 1994. Isaac, claimes he was a paid hitman that night for some other creepy record industry guy and that as Tupac lay shot he and his co-horts robbed Tupac of all his jewelery, then divided it amongst themselves. He also claims he still has Tupac's necklace which is proof he did it.

After languishing in prison for murdering other people, he says he wants to give closure to Tupac's and Biggie's mothers.

Either way, the murders of both Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur cemented them into rap history and made martyrs and stars out of both.

The Boston Bruins Win Lord Stanley's Cup

The Bruins won game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals last night 4-0 in Vancouver.

Such heartbreak for the poor Canucks who desparately wanted...needed...to win last night.

With one of the best home records of the year, it was a no-go when they needed it most. Just one more game at home. Heartbreak!

New England Teams continue to rack up trophies between the Bruins, ending their 40 year drought, the Red Sox and the Patriots.

Some are saying that the phenomenal eclipse last night was what the Bruins needed to win. Read this:

"It has been claimed that Thursday’s eclipse, the longest in more than a decade, “helped” the Bruins defeat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 to win their first cup in almost four decades.

Some observers have noted a similar turn of events occurred when the Boston Red Sox baseball team finally broke their drought in the World Series.

A total lunar eclipse occurred on October 27, 2004, when the team beat the St Louis Cardinals to sweep to their first Word Series title in 86 years.

According to reports in America, that eclipse was visible at Busch Stadium in St Louis where the Red Sox beat the Cardinals in Game 4.

The moon was also coloured red just as it was during Thursday’s eclipse."

Coincidence? Divine intervention? Either way, poor Vancouver lost. So sad.

Some upset Vancouver fans decided to riot and try and burn down their own city, instead of flying to Boston and burning them down.

In the meantime, Boston is planning a massive victory parade for Saturday. The team should be back in town in just a few hours.

A Blood Red Moon

The highly anticipated lunar eclipse is going to happen very soon...only not in North America.

The best places to view it live and in person are in Europe, Asia and Africa.

However, because its 2011, we get to watch it live on the Internet!

Google.com is going to stream it live over their famous "doodle" which all day has already been a lunar eclipse.

Youtube.com is also going to have it along with a dozen or so other sites.

The entire process will last five hours, 36 minutes, ending at 7 p.m. ET, making it the longest one of the 21st century.

Not only that but it will turn the moon a red color.

"All lunar eclipses are cool, but in a total lunar eclipse, the moon turns a kind of a red color. The middle of Earth's shadow isn't black, it's red, Dundee explained, because the light waves from the sun that are on the red end of the spectrum bend around the planet at just the right angle to bathe the moon in red light."

Amazing!

Cute. Cute. Cute.

Okay. Here's the latest kitten video making the rounds today.

Animal Abuse Video Ban Bill SHELVED!

Good news!

The proposed law that would have banned animal rights activists from secretly infiltrating factory farms and documenting the horrendous animal abuse there has been shelved for now.

"DES MOINES, Iowa -- Efforts to outlaw the undercover recording of animal abuse in livestock operations appear to have stalled in Iowa and other states in the face of complaints that the proposals were intended primarily to protect the industry with little concern for animals' welfare.

A measure to punish those who make secret videos initially appeared to be sailing through the Iowa Legislature, but after clearing the state House it has sputtered out in the Senate and appears dead for this session. Similar measures also have faltered in Minnesota, Florida and New York."

This is awesome. As one activist put it, "A good farm has nothing to hide."

A spotlight needs to be focused directly on the heinous evil that takes place at some/most of these farms so that animals have a voice and a chance at being treated respectfully.

Just because an animal is doomed to be killed and eaten for food doesn't mean it has to live a life of abuse first.

WARNING: This will make you sick. However, it may also cause you to have an awareness shift and think twice about condoning such behavior.

The Dictionary You've All Been Waiting For!

Relief from the N.W. palace of Ashurnasirpal II (883-859 B.C.)
showing anointing of the Tree of Life.
A winged god holds what appears to be a pinecone and a
pot with the anointing oil.
Above the Tree of Life is the royal signet of the god Ashur.
The god Ashur is depicted as a man with a bow inside a winged solar disk or as a winged solar disk.

Finally! After 90 years, plus or minus a few thousand, scholars have released a full Assyrian dictionary for all of us to enjoy.

Now you can research the language, learn it and read for yourself the "Epic of Gilgamesh" in it's original Babylonian/Assyrian glory.

Sick and tired of having to read someone else's translations of Hammurabi's famous Code? Rejoice! Now you can decipher it yourself.

Okay, we're being sarcastic for no obvious reason. We're actually very happy that this ancient language is being highlighted.

"This was the language that Sargon the Great, king of Akkad in the 24th century B.C., spoke to command what is reputed to be the world’s first empire, and that Hammurabi used around 1700 B.C. to proclaim the first known code of laws. It was the vocabulary of the Epic of Gilgamesh, the first masterpiece of world literature. Nebuchadnezzar II presumably called on these words to soothe his wife, homesick for her native land, with the promise of cultivating the wondrous Hanging Gardens of Babylon."

Kudos the researchers who struggled for so long to compile this unbelievable dictionary and give us a glimpse into the past.

As "student's of history" we revel in this kind of thing.

The Assyrians are from the Mesopotamian region (Iraq/Iran) and came right after the Sumerians, from whom all things we consider to be civilized were handed down "from the gods".

Hammurabi's Code is considered to the world's oldest law book and gives such commands as not stealing from a widow and criminal prosecution for those who steal livestock. Among many, many others.

Where's Your Crown, King Nothing!?

THE MAVERICKS WIN! THE MAVERICKS WIN!
THE MAVERICKS WIN!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The self-titled "king" has no crown, no glory and remains just a self-centered jackass like always.

Congrats to the ENTIRE MAVERICK TEAM and, of course, MARK CUBAN. The coolest sports owner of all time.

Way to go Mavs!

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh can go suck on Dirk Nowitzki's HUGE TROPHY.

N.P.H. KILLS at the Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Patrick hosted the Tony Awards last night, a show we never would've watched in a thousand years if he hadn't done so.

We tuned in specifically to see what he would do with the opening number and we WERE NOT disappointed!

NPH killed it. Freakin' killed it with a HILARIOUS opener. Because you know, "Broadway just got broader. It's not just for gays anymore!"

Here it is:

Desmond Tutu Gets It Right

Wow. Desmond Tutu's new book, 'God Is Not A Christian: And Other Provocations', contains some "explosive" stuff to all the Bible thumping die hards out there.

Read this excerpt that is posted on Huffington Post today to see why he thinks persecuting gays and lesbians is the ultimate injustice.

Here's a glimpse:

"A student once asked me, If I could have one wish granted to reverse an injustice, what would it be? I had to ask for two. One is for world leaders to forgive the debts of developing nations which hold them in such thrall. The other is for the world to end the persecution of people because of their sexual orientation, which is every bit as unjust as that crime against humanity, apartheid."

Way to go, Des! Comparing homosexuality persecution with apartheid is an awesome analogy and one that will certainly raise the hackles of all the religidiots out there. Good job!

The March on Blair Mountain - A Must Read!

ATTENTION ACTIVISTS!!

We are going to reprint this blog in it's entirety from the Huffington Post blog by Robert Kennedy, Jr.

It's SUPER CRITICAL!!

This week an important protest is taking place in the coalfields of West Virginia. The March on Blair Mountain began on Monday as several hundred people embarked on a five-day journey retracing the steps of over 10,000 miners who 90 years ago staged the largest armed insurrection after the American Civil War. Today's march is a protest against both the attack of the union movement in America and the demolition of the Appalachian mountains.

For over 50 years, American unions have served to counterbalance the ascendancy of unsheathed corporate power that threatens now to overwhelm American Democracy. In the past year, the union movement's final redoubt -- the public service unions -- have been vilified and emasculated in traditional union states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa.

Now one of the biggest union busters in American history, Massey Energy, is launching a final assault on the icon of America's union movement, Blair Mountain.

Blair Mountain's storied history dates back to West Virginia in the 1920s, when the entire state was a company town. Big Coal dominated every aspect of economic life. The industry owned the shops, the homes, of course the mines -- and made sure there was virtually no other source of employment in the state. Working conditions were horrendous: men and their sons worked 12 to 16 grueling hours in dark, dangerous mines dying from a notorious plague of subsurface explosions, cave-ins and black lung.

The companies used local sheriffs to enforce their system of feudal serfdom. When a miner was injured and his family needed to be evicted from their home, the sheriff did the dirty deed. When union organizers appeared, the sheriff arrested, jailed, and routinely beat them, before escorting them to the county line. One sheriff refused to tow the company line: Sid Hatfield, of Hatfield and McCoy lore.

Not only did Hatfield refuse to do the industry's bidding, but he jailed mine operators for mistreating their workers. In the infamous Matewan gun battle, Hatfield helped kill seven mine company private investigators who had evicted union families from their homes.

Hatfield was never convicted for the Matewan shootings, but the mine operators took their revenge and on August 1, 1921 when industry thugs executed Hatfield in broad daylight on the McDowell county court-house steps.

Hatfield's assassination triggered one of the biggest labor demonstrations in American history. Ten thousand miners from the coalfields of Kentucky and West Virginia marched for six days, converging on Blair Mountain to confront their industry bosses. They were met by King Coal's powerful army of thugs and mowed down by Gatling guns.

President Warren Harding, a so-called "friend of coal," like most of the leading politicians of the Gilded Age, authorized the U.S. army to drop bombs and poison gas on the marching miners -- the only time in American History when our military deliberately bombed U.S. citizens. These military measures broke the demonstration but outraged the public, and gave vital traction to the United Mine Workers and the American labor movement.

Over the next 60 years unions became the critical counterweight to corporate power and the principal platform for the growth of the American middle class, which gave our Democracy its wealth, prosperity, and sense of justice as a core value.

Now, as the union movement finds itself battered, beleaguered, and under assault by a legion of corporate toadies in state governor's office from every director to chamber of commerce. Tea Party, talk radio, Fox News and the tsunami of corporate money released by the Citizens United case, Massey Energy has recently announced that it intends to blow up Blair Mountain, the Gettysburg of America's union-based Democracy, to mine it for coal.

For the first time in decades, environmentalists including the NRDC, Sierra Club, Waterkeeper Alliance and local groups have declared common cause with unions in staging a six-day march to retrace the steps of the 1921 Blair Mountain miners. The march convenes Saturday morning June 11 with a final climb up Blair Mountain. Marchers hope to save this historic mountain from Massey by securing its status as a historic landmark.

West Virginia is today's epicenter of one of America's greatest civil disobedience movements. More than 200 people have been arrested protesting mountaintop removal coal mining in the past 18 months. The protesters include college students and local West Virginia marines, former miners, housewives, and an 82-year-old grandmother who was arrested in her wheelchair. They are all calling for an end to mountaintop removal, the extreme form of coal mining that has flattened 500 mountains in Appalachia, illegally buried 2,000 miles of streams, destroyed one million acres of forest, and devastated numerous communities, lives, and towns in the region.

Union busting corporations have commoditized not just the workforce, but the historic landscapes of West Virginia, using great machines and dynamite to eliminate mining jobs. While production has more than doubled in 10 years, industry employment is one-tenth of it what was when my father warned me about strip mining as a 14-year-old boy.

It is time for Americans to march in the footsteps of our union ancestors of 90 years ago to protect our jobs, and save our national patriarchy, the purple mountains majesty, the individual rights and community based values that make our country of the envy of free people.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appears in the documentary The Last Mountain (www.thelastmountainmovie.com), currently playing in theaters.

The film reveals the devastating effects of mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia and features the dedicated activists who are fighting to make sure all Americans have access to clean air and water.

So what can we do?

Giza Pyramids News Update and Shutting Down

"Security staff from the Pyramid site in Giza, however, announced that starting 15 June, the iconic pyramid complex would be shut down."

The pyramids are being closed due to security concerns. Nothing has been okay since the revolution and there are protests everywhere, including the blocking of the iconic pyramid complex at Giza.

So starting next week they will be closed to the public indefinitely.

This comes on the heels of a magnificent discovery inside the Great Pyramid of "graffiti" said to "be ancient graffiti tags left by a worker or symbols of religious significance."

"A robot with a camera went down a mysterious passage only eight inches wide and found some hieroglyphs daubed with red paint onto the floor of a secret chamber at the end of the tunnel.

Egyptologist Luca Miatello has deciphered the writing and says they're engineering marks. They make the number 121, which corresponds to the length in cubits of the so-called Queen's Chamber of the pyramid."

NEWS ARTICLE

Hmmm...very interesting. Robots are again crawling all over the inside of The Great Pyramid the very week they are announcing a shut down.

Also, more woes for The Pharaoh:

It's being reported that "Staff members who had worked for the government anywhere from five to thirty years were demanding permanent contracts and decent working conditions. They also sought the removal of Zahi Hawass."

We'll keep you updated but something tells us Zahi Hawass isn't going anywhere!

What a Difference Three Months Can Make

These astonishing pictures show what an incredible effort the Japanese tsunami survivors and volunteers have made in cleaning up and rebuilding after the disaster.

Amazing!

We are super-impressed with the remarkable efforts they have made so far. Let's hope the people of Tuscaloosa and Joplin can also be inspired by this and show how quickly they are cleaning up and rebuilding as well.

Good job!

"Art in Nature" category winner and host of the Weather Channel Series "From the Edge with Peter Lik" had this to say about his stunning ghost picture:

"The biggest lesson I have learned in photography is that timing is everything. No matter how perfect your technique and equipment, if you aren't in the right place at the right time, you simply won't get the shot.

In the underground caves of Antelope Canyon, I knew the summer sun would pass directly overhead at midday. As my only opportunity for the shot approached, a narrow sliver of light beamed down through a keyhole onto the sandy canyon floor.

At the precise moment I clicked the shutter, my Navajo Indian guide threw a handful of dust into the light. It wasn't until weeks later, when I finally got to review the results of the shoot, that I was able to see the ghostlike human form that emerged. I wondered if the ancient spirits of the canyon were present with me that day."

Umm...YES! Yes, Peter, they were! Congratulations on the award.

WINNER: Zoos And Aquariums - Tom Warren
Western Lowland Gorilla and Mallard Duck, Bronx Zoo, New York, U.S.

This photo, capturing a gorilla making friends with a duckling, is absolutely compelling.

World Oceans Day

Today is World Oceans Day. We encourage everyone to donate to an organization that promotes protecting and conserving our precious oceans. There is a list at the bottom of this post.

As you all know by know, the Pacific Garbage Patch isn't the only massive collection of plastics and refuse in our waters. There is an Atlantic one too. And apparantly 2 more off the coasts of Russia.

These need to spotlighted so more people are aware of them. They need to be contained and then cleaned up. As far as we know, there are NO ORGANIZATIONS ANYWHERE that are dedicated to doing so.

The Day’s challenges and key objectives

Inform the general public of the dangers facing the ocean and of the impact of human activities

Create a world-wide citizen’s movement

Raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in all our daily lives

Mobilise people around sustainable ocean stewardship projects

Encourage everyone to take action to preserve the ocean and its riches

Celebrate World Oceans Day and participation in the day’s festivities.

And please read the blog out today from Phillippe Cousteau, grandson of the legendary Jacques Cousteau.

Mom's Pride and Joy

Check out this adorable baby lion from a zoo in Australia! The four week old cub enjoys some time with Mom, Kiamba.

Kiamba is a seven year old lion and this is her first cub. It's a rarity for a lion to only birth a single cub so this little guy or girl is sure to be mom's favorite and get all of her attention.

It is too early to determine the sex of the cub. Mom, Kiamba, is due to be sedated in another 4 weeks so zoo keepers can get a closer look at the new baby and get all of its vitals.

There is an ebay auction going on now and ending June 14, with the highest bidder winning the right to name the new cub.

We think it's a boy...and would name him Leonidas.

French Open: And the Trophies Go To...

Congratulations to Li Na, the first Chinese woman to win a major. She went toe to toe with Francesca Shiavone, defending Champion from Italy and won in 2 sets.
Li Na...29 years old and loving it!

And much to our chagrin, our beloved Novak Djokovic lost the semis to Roger Federer who proved why he is the one of the best players of all time. The 4 set match camethisclose to 5 but Novak got in the groove to late to stop the Fed Express (so much for the Yokobabies).

But alas in the Finals today, Roger came out strong but lost in 4 sets to RAFAEL NADAL. The undisputed King of Clay, who with this win, has SIX French Open trophies now. Rafa owns the French Open and has tied Bjorn Borg (with 6) as the King of the French. One day they have to rename Roland Garros to The Rafael Nadal Stadium. He owns it.

Rafael Nadal enjoys chewing on another trophy

RAFA! Rafa looked fucking awesome today, regaining all his speed, skill, energy and passion that he seemed to lack the last few months while Novak was on his Serbian Reign of Terror. While Roger Federer can school a class on Finesse, Style and Grace...Rafa has all the Hard-Core Ability. And it was great to see another Federer-Nadal classic today. The best rivalry in sport.

Fun Fact: Novak turned 25 years old on the first day of the French Open 2 weeks ago, Rafael Nadal turned 25 just a couple of days ago AND Nadal, at the age of 25 years and two days, was just 24 hours older than the Bjorn Borg was when he won his sixth title in 1981.

So Happy Birthday to all three Tennis Legends!

Bjorn Borg in 1981 and Rafael Nadal today, 2011.

This kid is more than the real deal...
he is on course to be the best player of all time!

French Open: Update

Celebrate while you can Andy. Rafa awaits!

It's going to be a hell of a semi-final round. Well, almost...

Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic
Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal

That last part is where the almost fits in. There's no way...barring Rafa breaking his leg and bleeding to death from a compound fracture...that Murray will win. No. Way. In. Hell. That. Murray. Will. Win.

Also, expecting Novak to send the former God of Tennis Federer to his early retirement, we can look forward to a Rafa - Novak final.

Roger hasn't reached a final in over 16 MONTHS. Not since he married and had kids. Sorry, Merka. You are now the Yoko Ono of tennis. Or maybe it's the babies. They are Yokobabies. We guess it's hard for a guy who won every tennis tournament ever to be all ready to go like he used to when he has adorable baby twin girls on his mind. Therefore, Yokobabies. The end of a legend.

Meanwhile, Novak is gunning for several things (from the AP wire):

- The 24-year-old Serb is 41-0 in 2011, and a win over Federer would allow Djokovic to tie John McEnroe's record for best start to a season in the Open era, 42-0 in 1984

- Add in two victories for Serbia against France in the Davis Cup final in December, and Djokovic's winning streak stands at 43 overall, three shy of Guillermo Vilas' mark of 46 in a row in 1977.

- Djokovic is seeking to reach his first final in Paris; if he were to win the title, he'd be the first man since Jim Courier in 1992 to win the Australian Open and French Open in the same year.

- If he beats Federer, Djokovic will be assured of rising to No. 1 in the ATP rankings for the first time, no matter what happens in the Nadal-Murray semifinal or in Sunday's championship match.

GO NOLE! GO NOLE! GO NOLE!

On the women's side - IN THE BEST NEWS EVER...Li Na has sent That Bitch Sharapova HOME. We are currently celebrating Li Na as our hero for the day.

Good Riddance, Maria, you bitch.

Look for the men's semi finals tomorrow - they should be awesome!

GO NOLE!
